I continue to find myself impressed by the consistentcy of the crop top's influence over women's fashion. In my opinion it is somewhat rare to find an item so relevant in the industry regardless of the season. And to be completely honest with you, I find this fact to be rather humorous considering of the lack of material that the garment actually consists of. Something so minimal is usually confined to our summer wardrobes. I also have to admit that as each summer approaches I hope and pray to no longer see the return of the skin tight, mid-drif bearing top, alongside a pair of barely there diaper denim cut off shorts. I don't care how hot it is, actual clothing is still a necessity. This is where my personality differs from Kenny Chesney and his no shoes, no shirt, no problem, kind of attitude. But we're not all cut out to be country stars so I guess that's ok.
I think it's safe to say that I have a love hate relationship with the crop top. Although I love to hate on the tight, club-going silhouettes, there are many interpretations of the trend that have me drooling. The keys to my heart when it comes to this top are as follows….
1. Boxiness is welcomed. I would absolutely love to be able to eat my fifth Mr. Softee cone of the day without feeling like my shirt is going to combust into a million pieces (just like my heart when I finish the ice cream).
2. Must Must Must be worn with something high waisted! There is a fine line between what is and what isn't an appropriate amount of tummy to show. And even if you look like a super model, the rule still applies. Please, you just make the rest of us feel even worse about that fifth ice cream.
3. Prints and Textures! If the duration of this trend is going to last as long as I predict than we will need to ditch the white and black jersey stretch and continue to experiment with bold patterns and unique fabrics.
So what is your opinion on the crop top…. Is it here to stay, or should we drop it like it's hot?
